Creating Schools that will Work
One of the most essential parts of the mission of the Ayele Foundation is to build schools. That has been the goal from the beginning: to create safe buildings where children can focus on learning, rather than on the integrity of their buildings. The following photograph depicts a building similar to the type of structures that we will build in that initial phase:
The long-term goal of the foundation is to add elements to the buildings that we construct that will make them sustainable long-term: elements such as rainwater harvesting and filtration systems so that the water that comes during the rainy seasons can be used throughout the year; solar panels that can help power technology, particularly in areas where bringing electricity to the area is part of what precludes implementing technology into the schools; and flexible construction materials so that we can work with what is available near the schools and when necessary, bring in materials that are more sustainably acquired.
